TimeGlider: Instructions

Adding Images to Your Timeline

First, make sure one of the relevant timelines is up on the viewer and that the focus of the viewer is at the approximate date of the image placement.

Images are really just an addition that you make to a normal event.  Double-clicking the screen or clicking "add event/image" will bring up the event editing panel. The title of the event will serve as a caption, and the dates will determine where on the timeline (the date registering to the left edge of the image) the image will appear.

Click on the "image" button:

For the URL, you will need its entire url, always staring with "http://..." You can use almost any image from the web (jpeg, gif, or png), including images that come from your TimeGlider image library. In either case, the image should be SMALL — under 200 pixels in either width or height.

TO USE AN IMAGE FROM THE GREATER WWW

  1. The image should be small to begin with, under 200 pixels in both height and width. There is no option to resize (shrink) images
  2. Open a new browser window, and surf to a web page with that image on it.
  3. Either right-click on the image, or (Mac users) command-click on it, and a set of options should appear
  4. Select "copy image location" and the full url of that image will be stored in your clipboard
  5. Return to the image editing panel in TimeGlider and paste that url into the "image url" field

TO USE IMAGES FROM YOUR TIMEGLIDER IMAGE LIBRARY
If you don't have an image in your TimeGlider image library yet, follow these instructions, then return here.

Images that have been uploaded into your TimeGlider image library can be easily placed by clicking the "open library" link on the image editing panel, then simply clicking on the appropriate image. The URL and the default caption will be filled in for you.
